Amazing De Ruiter Assortment on display at the Naivasha open days
Rose growers drawn from different zones in Kenya converged on different days during the Open Days that were held throughout Week 8; just a few days after a relatively successful Valentine’s season. From the growers we spoke with, the biggest pain-point in the period before and after Valentine's has been freight costs. Press reports indicated that limited capacity and higher freight rates meant more expensive Kenyan flowers when they eventually get to key markets.

Amidst this mix of challenges and promising days ahead, roses were in full bloom inside the DREA showhouse. These included well-known De Ruiter winning varieties as well as a good number of new roses and some promising numbers.

According to DREA’s MD Rob Letcher, rose growers are welcome not only during Open Days but at any planned day throughout the year because the breeder’s strategy is to offer as sufficient time as possible to its customers.
