Events July 10th - The Americas Cup - Fernando Weber

Today, Fernando made a table for two, which consists a distinctive and elaborate extension of reed stems. His bridal bouquet and corsage are all entirely made of white flowers.

Event 3: Table for Two; The Oceans of the Americas.

What can you tell us about your 'The Oceans of the Americas' creation? Is it for breakfast/ lunch / supper/ dinner? What picture came instantly into your mind when you learned about this theme? What were your sources for inspirations?

Gold cane twigs form part of the table structure, creating a dreamy setting for a dinner. Beautiful flowers help to create a comfortable environment. My inspiration was a boat trip through the 365 islands in Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro. The first image I had in my mind when I learnt about this theme was the colour of the fish when they came to the surface of the water to eat some pieces of bread.

For which 2 people did you design this creation and why. What issues are they talking about during the meal?

Oscar Niemeyer, the acclaimed architect who created Brasilia, which is a World Architectural Heritage Site; and also Gisele Bündchen, who is the UN goodwill ambassador for the Environment and started a global campaign for the International Year of Biodiversity in 2010. They are both committed to Environmental Conservation.

How can we recognize your style in general? And how is this expressed in this creation?

I think that the main characteristics of my work are my concern with the form and the concept behind the floral decoration. An overall view helps me to see beyond the details, focusing on the whole decoration. I appreciate structured works, but I consider myself a multitasker.

Who are you going to call first in case you win this competition?

The first telephone call will be to my family, that is my staff, because they are very dedicated, they keep the business runnning perfectly, they give me the necessary support and peace of mind to take part in this event, which will mark our lives. For them, my heartfelt thanks!

Event 4: Bridal Bouquet; Free theme.

What theme did you used for your creation? What makes this creation distinctively yours?

The bouquet has a romantic theme, expressing a classical vision of weddings, surrounded by an enchanting atmosphere and passion in every detail.

Whose work do you admire? In floristry but also in fields of art, design, music?

I admire Tom Jobim and his song “Garota de Ipanema”, which talks a lot about Brazil.

Event 5: Corsage; Free theme.

For what kind of event did you make this corsage? Flowers have the ability to make people happy. How should you convince people to wear a corsage more often?

This accessory was created for a young teenager to use at a graduation party. That is why it combines a little bit of softness and beauty and some details from the bride’s bouquet. Once a woman has worn this accessory with natural flowers once, she will want to use it again and again... The best way to convince someone to use it is to let them experience the happiness and spontaneity brought by flowers.

How many hours did you spent in preparing your attendance to this competition? What thoughts and feelings you experienced during the preparation do you want to share with us?

I spent many hours, because I will be competing with other winners. I read several books on Floral Art, took classes in body language for the stage, and aim to surprise the world with all the beauty of the marvellous flowers from our forest.
