Events July 10th - The Americas Cup - Elizabeth Ladron de Guevara Cetina

The work for the Oceans of the Americas table represents both oceans, the Atlantic and the Pacific, joined at the poles, the colours and depth that distinguish them, along with their currents. This piece is designed for lunch. The first image that came to mind was that of the globe, the union of the two oceans through the Panama canal, the waves in the sea and their colors; blue, lilac, green and sand. My inspiration came from the colour, the movement and the depth of the oceans.

This design is inspired by two young people, both designers, who can visually break down the piece and play around with the elements around the table, given that it is a mobile puzzle as well. These young people communicate through their body movements, as gentle as the waves; they talk about the new trends, materials and colors, and at the same time they’re having fun playing with the piece presented.

When I work, I like communicating modernity, implementing organic themes, recycling, making structures, representing my culture through the materials I use, and try not to be perfect, as this doesn’t exist in nature; in my piece I tried to implement what I talked about just now, every designer has their own signature. The use of organic elements, construction and recyclable materials are expressed in my table for two.

I could call a few important people in my life, but I wouldn’t know who to start with, since all of them are dear to my heart. I’d probably go for someone who shares my views in design, like my niece Karinne, or the person who gave birth to me, my mom.

I chose the theme for my bridal bouquet while working on the test for the piece of the first event, “The Amazon Rainforest”, as I based it on the “Spider” structure. This way I created a connection between my pieces, which creatively speaking makes it mine, since I like making pieces with a single theme, following a single story, a single guiding chord.

The personality of the bride who would carry this bouquet is fun, different, someone who likes nature, everything modern, new approaches. She’s creative, young and extrovert. The groom’s personality is playful, a creative man, modern, he likes innovative materials, nothing classic.

Great designers have marked both my work and my life as a florist, all of them are admirable. You can learn from everyone really, whether they have experience or not, but if I were to give names I’d say Gregor Lersch, Daniel Santa Maria, Daniel Ost, Per Benjamin, Emilia Nardi, Ernesto Rossi. These are some of the people I could mention, to whom I owe part of my learning process and all of my admiration. As far as art goes, I like works by Picasso, Dali, Frida Kahlo, O’Gorman, Velazco, Miguel Angel, Rivera, Da Vinci, Siqueiros, Leonora Carrington, among many others. Musically speaking, I like a lot of genres, from Techno to Classic, through folk music from my country, Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, Elvis Presley, Moncayo, Manuel M. Ponce, Armando Manzanero, Consuelo Velazquez, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, etc.

The corsage I chose to make is based around the same Spider structure, but with a twist. It could be worn to a wedding. To convince people to use this floral element it’s important to talk to people about the floral language, how flowers can make a difference, distinguish a guest from a host, and the unity that it creates between the person who is wearing it and the event.

I couldn’t really put into hours and minutes the time I spent preparing the pieces, but I can say it was quite a bit; ever since I got the brief I started developing the creative concept, researching, experimenting with materials and techniques. Even now I’m still in the creative process for the themes we have to execute, as anything can change, but all this time is very appreciated by me, since it’s the only way I can continue to generate creative ideas.

Every job is a new challenge. I’d like to follow the process of generating topics for teaching, sharing everything I’ve learned, giving a little more to the floral community, challenging myself to learn something new every day, learning some more techniques, more knowledge and participating more in these kinds of activities.
