A traditional Valentine's heart with a new look
Valentine’s Day is a derivative of the Roman Lupercalia celebration that took place mid February in honour of the fertility god Lupercus. In the present day, February 14 is the day when you can surprise a loved one with a gift, flowers, card or poem.
Flowers have always been and will always be the absolute favourite on this day. A Valentine does not necessarily have to be your lover, but can be anyone close to you whom you cherish like a parent or a good friend.
Back then, people had a notion that all emotions were in the heart. Then this honour came to be an exclusive reserve for love. Now the heart is the symbol of love, and so is Valentine’s Day. The red rose was the favourite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love.
This double heart, which has been created by Robert Koene, is in one way the ultimate, traditional Valentines flower arrangement, heart shaped and partly consisting of roses. It is not for nothing that the heart and the rose are symbols associated with Valentine’s Day.
On the other hand this arrangement is also innovative and original. To make an innovative design, Robert Koene uses the Anthurium cut flower Calisto®, a flower with a warm dark red colour and a brown cast. That’s why this flower forms a beautiful contrast with the red rose Red Naomi!®. The double heart of the arrangement gives a playful effect and the green hortensia breaks the seeming monotony of red colours.
