The first event, Designers Choice is themed "Flowers on the Orient". Contestants will complete a design up to 1.2 metres deep and wide and 2.25 metres high within 2 hours. On the same day they will have their artistic flair tested again with a "Surprise Item" which they will complete in just over an hour. This is an exciting test of how spontaneous these designers from around the world can be with only 15 minutes to view the various items presented to them and create something amazing.
Flowers on the Orient
I started with an imaginary forest which combines design and nature. It brings out the feeling of modernity as well as the history of the Orient.
The orient is a big area, there is the eastern part and then there is the part closer to Europe. So I consider the roses, the tuba roses, small trees with flowers. Chaenokonomelles and of course orchids
The first aspect was my speciality, which is achieving contrast between the design structure and the chosen flowers and plants. The second aspect would be the specific choice of colours I used in the arrangement.
Shanghai Tang - Surprise Item
Create within the time allowed an in store display for the famous Shanghai Tang Clothing and Accessories Store. Your design should reflect the vibrancy and contemporary ambience of this retail outlet. You do not have to use all of the materials provided, you may decide not to use some of the items at all.
I wanted to make a structure for showing another object. I made this display for a bag with silk material. This creation has graphical lines, it is like a silhouette. I like to do surprise items! It is a kind of a challenge. This assignment gave me a little more stress than the first assignment. Not because of the surprise element, but due to the fact that I wanted to make a very solid structure, that would last.
