Interflora World Cup - Jouni Seppanen, Finland
The first event, Designers Choice is themed "Flowers on the Orient". Contestants will complete a design up to 1.2 metres deep and wide and 2.25 metres high within 2 hours.
On the same day they will have their artistic flair tested again with a "Surprise Item" which they will complete in just over an hour. This is an exciting test of how spontaneous these designers from around the world can be with only 15 minutes to view the various items presented to them and create something amazing.

Flowers on the Orient.
My idea in handling this competition piece has been The Oriental Pearl Tower which stands on the bank of Huangpu River. It is the highest TV Tower in Asia. The designers magically set the eleven beautiful spheres of various sizes up from the green grassland to the blue sky with two giant spheres shining like two rubies. The whole design is rich in poetic and pictorial splendour, which gives the impression that pearls of various sizes are dropping onto the emerald plate. I would like to pay homage to City of Shanghai, the 13th Interflora World Cup Competition host city by designing a flower version of the Oriental Pearl Tower. My design elements will be water, forms and colours conforming to the real Oriental Pearl Tower.

Typical flowers of the orient are for example chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, orchids and of course peonies. I’m using all of these flower varieties in my design making oriental influence and showing my respect for the ancient and significant cultures of the orient.

"Strong colours and the play of experimental floristry makes this my signature design."

Surprise item - Shanghai Tang

Assignment: Create within the time allowed an in store display for the famous Shanghai Tang Clothing and Accessories Store. Your design should reflect the vibrancy and contemporary ambience of this retail outlet. You do not have to use all of the materials provided, you may decide not to use some of the items at all.
I wanted to make a parallel bouquet. The result is a contemporary design that is very decorative, but not to many different details. I kept it a pure design. The bouquet has the same colours as the Shanghai Tang retail outlet.
