CIOPORA Launches Webinar Program on IP for Plants
CIOPORA is extending its CIOPORA Academy education program with distance learning offerings in the form of webinars. The first two webinars will cover Intellectual Property (IP) regimes of two major horticultural markets and producers, China and USA. The webinars will broadcast live with two 1.5 h sessions each to cover all time zones. The webinar registration starts on October 1 and is open to all seeking to enhance their knowledge of IP for plant innovations.
The learning program’s inaugural webinar on Trademarks for plant products in China will broadcast live at 9 am and 6 pm Chinese Standard Time (CST) on November 19. Featuring the Baker McKenzie’s IP Office Lead for consumer goods and retail industry Mr Andrew Sim, it will provide an opportunity for the direct interaction with the speaker. Participants will be introduced to China’s Trademark regime, covering trademark registration, filing strategies, registrability, anticounterfeit tactics and enforcement options.
On December 12, the webinar program will return with a lecture by Mr Jeff Haynes, the Acting Commissioner at the US Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO). The speaker will elaborate on the much-anticipated procedures of PVR filing for asexually reproduced varieties in the U.S. Learners will receive a complete overview of the application and DUS examination process conducted by the US PVPO for such crops. The sessions will take place at 12 noon and 7 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST).
“Today, the horticultural business is a truly global enterprise and so is the knowledge that green businesses must bring to the table,” said CIOPORA Secretary General Dr Edgar Krieger. "With the CIOPORA Academy webinars, we are excited to offer a quick, comfortable and cost-effective solution to horticultural businesses looking to increase their capacities and knowledge of IP for plants."
The program will connect horticulturalists and IP experts on all continents minimizing cost and time expenditures often associated with vocational training. In addition to the CIOPORA Academy on-site events, such as workshops on October 20 – 21 in Madrid and November 4 – 5 in Amsterdam, the webinars will present an accessible opportunity to learn about IP for plant innovations and help raise awareness on the topic and its most pressing issues throughout the green sector.
