Proflora 2019 opening ceremony presided over by President Duque
President Dr Iván Duque Márquez of Colombia presided over the official opening ceremony of Proflora 2019 in Bogota. The tradeshow, now in its tenth edition, is the premier showcase for ornamentals in the South American country. Proflora show which is a key platform for promoting Colombian flowers was incepted in 1991 and takes place every two years.
During a recent UN address, President Duque expressed how the Colombian floricultural industry was instrumental in driving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

According to reports leading up to this year’s event, President Duque is a true champion of the flower industry and is a personal acquaintance to a good number of players in the sector.
Flowers are the second-largest export product in Colombia. Last year the industry contributed 1.6 billion dollars to the country’s GDP. Duque expressed his wish to double this amount in the next decade, signaling his intention to draft a master plan to achieve this, together with the industry.
