De Ruiter Preparing for a ‘Red’ & ‘White’ Christmas & New Year Season 2018
As we all know Christmas is a time of giving & receiving when family & loved ones come together to celebrate each other’s friendship. De Ruiter has been building on its strong breeding genetics to provide ‘Red’ and ‘White’ lines to satisfy the festive period.

Strong commercial red varieties such as Ever Red®, Rhodos®, Furiosa®, Cupido®, Born Free®, Red Kamala® & Spectre® are just a few of the hot favorites while white varieties such as Uzuri®, Proud®, Snow Bliss®, Summit® & Miss Blanca® show that De Ruiter has an excellent portfolio of Red’s & White’s both in the auction and direct markets. Not to ignore other De Ruiter straight colours yellows, oranges & pinks.

In the past, De Ruiter was known for its highly productive retail varieties, however, eight years ago it also started with the breeding of strong contenders for the auction market. Having two high altitude (2,400m) show cases in two different growing regions our customers are better able to sample varieties in their respective growing areas.
Kenya is one of the largest producing and exporting countries of cut roses globally with 38% market share in the European Union. Approximately 65% of Kenya’s flowers are sold through the Dutch auction. The remainder comprising retail varieties are sold to direct markets in, especially, the UK and Germany, followed by Japan and Russia. Twenty six different breeders are active in East Africa, but in excess of 50% of the market is captured by three major companies.

De Ruiter has more than 100 commercially active varieties to offer its clients, those top selling De Ruiter East Africa varieties include Ever Red®, Born Free®, Furiosa®, Cupido®, Red Kamala® & Rhodos®, with a number of other red codes in the pipeline for 2019.
"Going into the festive period believe we have done everything to improve communication between the growers, unpackers & customers alike," says Guy Keeble of De Ruiter East Africa.
"We would like to wish flowerweb readers and indeed everyone in the industry a very enjoyable & peaceful Christmas 2018 & New Year 2019," he adds.
