Marea, vintage newcomer in the Anthurium cut flower assortment
Last week Bouman Anthuriums started with the constant supply of the new Anthurium cut flower Marea®. Anthura has bred and multiplied this tulip shaped Anthurium cut flower with a spectacular colour combination in its category. The flower has a green base colour and changes more and more into pink during vase life.
This vintage colour balance fits perfectly in all kinds of colour combinations. “That is one of the reasons to add Marea to the assortment. Each season you can make a very nice combination with Marea”, says Jens Kool of Bouman Anthuriums. The veins in the flower have a darker pink colour; this enhances the vintage look. The flower size is about 13 cm in accordance with the wishes of the customers. This flower performs well in the cold tolerance tests, so transport at 7°C during one or two days is very well possible.
Bouman Anthuriums supplies Marea to Royal FloraHolland Aalsmeer and Naaldwijk. The first weeks the production will be approximately 1.800 stems per week and during the year this amount will increase up to an average of 4.000 stems per week. “It is important to offer enough Anthuriums on the main sales locations, the production is tailored to this. In the first weeks of supply Marea is ill be auctioned three times weekly, but that will be quickly change every day.
When the flowers leave the nursery, they will be transported, just like Gerbera’s, ‘upside down’. This means that the box will be placed upside down. It has turned out that the flowers keep on growing in the box. When the box is transported upside down, it does not the flower shape.
With Marea the tulip-shaped assortment of the Anthurium cut flowers has expanded. This segment is becoming more popular among florists, because of the round shape of the flowers. They can be incorporated well in the current trends of bouquets and arrangements. The first reactions to Marea’s introduction are very positive.
