LIQUIDSEAL PARTNERSHIP WITH JAMAFA MACHINERY

During the recently held IFTEX show in Nairobi, we had the opportunity to chat with the team from LIQUIDSEAL who shared with us about their various post-harvest flower solutions.

According to Ernst van den Berg, LIQUIDSEAL products ideal for Kenyan flower growers include LIQUIDSEAL for roses (spray), LIQUIDSEAL for red roses (spray), LIQUIDSEAL for roses, for dipping, and the recently introduced LIQUIDSEAL for carnations.

“LIQUIDSEAL is a 100% biodegradable coating, which helps to extend the flower’s vaselife and shelf life of flowers by controlling evaporation. Our products also improve the product quality in a sustainable and cost effective manner,” says Ernst.

It is also possible to add chemicals to the LIQUIDSEAL. In that case LIQUIDSEAL works as a slow release system. Botrytis chemicals for example, can work up to 2 weeks or even more, while normally they would only work a few days. So this means you can protect your flowers against botrytis in the whole supply chain, from grower to consumer. During a past interview with Flowerweb, LIQUIDSEAL revealed an instance where growers had a reduction in claims of 95% due to the fact that they use LIQUIDSEAL in combination with a botricyde.

On the type of Feedback received from growers, he adds that quite a number of growers are currently already using LIQUIDSEAL products and that they are satisfied with the results. Tests have shown that LIQUIDSEAL is also beneficial for the overall quality when sending flowers via sea-container.

LIQUIDSEAL and JAMAFA MACHINERY have joined forces in order to increase the shelf life of roses and other flowers. JAMAFA has LIQUIDSEAL products incorporated in their new semi automatic grading and bunching machine which is tailormade for African growers. The machine is equipped with 12 sorting outlets. One can sort flowers according to stemlength, diameter, bud height, bud width and maturity.
