"Follow the Sun!" by Peter Boeijkens, Jan Aartsen, Frank Timmerman, Fleur Amour 2016

The theme for the 2016 edition of FleurAmour Passion for Flowers flower design event was centered around the four elements of earth, water, air and fire. The event now on its 21st edition was as tradition held at the Commandery of Alden Biesen and featured an impressive display of amazing and inspiring decorations.

Inline with the event's captivating theme, Peter Boeijkens, Frank Timmerman and Jan Aartsen created a project they named "Follow the SUN"!

What can you tell us about your project?

Water Fire Earth & Sky.. Which flowers in our beautiful profession, are symbols for these elements? Of course we have consulted "The World-Wide-Web"...

However, there are so innumerable symbolic meanings that relate to Water-Fire-Earth-Air, that we as a team decided to write our own symbolism at Alden Biesen Fleur-Amour!

If there is one flower symbol that should stand for the four Astrological elements, we came to the conclusion, that it certainly should be the Sunflower !

How did you incorporate the theme of the four elements of nature: Fire, air, water or earth in your project?

After all, what Flower connects these four elements more than The SUNFLOWER. Your flower which symbolizes: The sun (Without Sun, most of those materials does not even exist on our planet!).

The Flower of Flowers. The Flower as each child draw a Flower. The Flower which can grow in a few months up to a meter high giant. The Flower that radiates so much power and light. The (only?) Flower that wents her head towards the light. The Golden Flower.

Why did you decide to come to Alden Biesen to work?

The atmosphere is mellow, at this event we can design something of our own which is not influenced by somebody (for example a client).

No doubt possible: The sunflower symbolizes not only the four elements of our mission, Sunflower will also symbolize for us this year as a Team Alden Biesen Fleuramour.

THE POWER OF SIMPLICITY
Where we in previous years processed many different materials, will be seen this year "only" a kind of flower which is: Helianthus annuus, which is the only real: sunflower

Setting the structure

First the construction was planted down, (the stamps and the concrete mesh), Second the oasis base was created, thereafter a team of 6 florists arranged the sunflowers.
