It was an exciting first day of the 2016 European Florist Championship in Genoa, with plenty amazing floral designs being created!
All competitors had to perform three tasks. Starting off with a car decoration in the morning, in this case of a small, classic Fiat, for the task “PARATA FLOREALE DI SANREMO”.
Afterwards, it was time for a special picnic task “PASTA, PESTO, E FIORI” ; a floral arrangement for a picnic in the Genovese mountains in Spring. With special attention paid to Pesto, the trademark food product of the city of Genoa!
The last task on the first day was a wedding assignment. Entitled “MATRIMONIO IN VESPA”; the instruction for the 23 competitors was to design a floral decoration for a bride, who is sitting behind her groom while he is riding on a Vespa to their wedding reception.
Flowerweb and its team was right there to bring you the end results as well as the story behind the various creations and techniques used, as told by the competitors.
Below you can see the results from Sören Van Laer from Belgium
On our Europacup 2016 event page you can also see the floral designs from the other competitors.

I really enjoy working with Italian springflowers, they are fragile and playfull, begining of new life.
Ranunculus are really amazing with many varieties.
I created circles with rustic wire from Oasis, in light brown, natural colour, so it would blend perfectly...
If I could make a dreamtrip I would go to the beach and have some drinks with good friends.

I made a 20 cm high square and tried to reflect the springseason by using grass and natural material to wind the iron bars. They have to make waves like pasta does...
I used springflowers in all pastel colours, matching perfectly together, because they are fragile and I love that.
I would like it to be a romantic picnic after a vesparide with the one I love most, just because I'm a romantic person.

The shiny and richfull look of the design.
With the diamants and the milka light purple colour I want to go back in time but in a very classy way.
I used Hyacints and Kalanchoë but because they are very strong to hold on a vespa and they take us back in time to the 50-60's.
I used some oasismaterials, wire, and small flowers and I made something that goes from hand to arm, and the end can be attached back on the arm so it can not cause trouble during the vesparide...
