Bloom Bites (stand 18.4 at the Seasonal Trade Fair) has won the Glazen Tulp 2016 award with a concept of edible plants for the upper market segment of garden centers and florists.
"You must be able to explain the concept on the retail floor. Smaller chains are more successful at that," explains Bernadette Kapteijn. "With that advantage, you can make it clear that some plants really can be eaten."
The idea for Bloom Bites arose when Bernadette read about edible plants in a magazine and realized that they could barely be found on the market. Now her Glazen Tulp award will generate extra attention in the media. "And the confirmation to carry on, because I have received that award from juries of professionals and consumer experts."
For the production of plants, Bernadette has since joined forces with Plantenkwekerij Vreugdenhil. "The Bloom Bites plants match the supply of the Pick & Joy's very well. That supply is also constantly expanding through the yellow Pick & Tom, for instance.
