A Pink Rose for Mum - The NIRP Selection
A good number of people from all corners of the world are planning to give their mums a floral treat this Mother's Day. In celebrating their mothers and expressing their affection, many will go for a beautiful pink rose. In the build up to this day, we visited Nirp East Africa to see what is new and exciting at their showhouse.

Among their assortment are these beautiful pink roses, plus some important insight for East African rose growers.
Popstar

Popstar is a pure pink rose that does well at both high and low altitude areas. The rose, which is already established commercially grows a 5.5mm head in the Naivasha altitude and has long stems of 70-80cm. Average vaselife is 13 days with a production of 150 in East Africa.

Dreamliner

Another beautiful dark pink commercial variety, Dreamliner is grown by Suera Flowers in Nyahururu at an altitude of 2300 meters. Suera gets headsizes ranging 5.5-6.5cm and lengths of 50-80cm.

Favola

Favola has a nice baby pink color and is a good choice for both low and high alitude growers. The rose has a good headsize and is currently being tried out by several growers in East Africa. Favola will be introduced to the market later in 2016.

Altavista

Altavista has a classic opening with a pink color and a subtle green on the outside. This is a commercial variety ideal for low and high altitude. The stemlength is 50-70cm with a budsize of 5.5 and average production of 170 in East Africa.
