Day 1: First competition task: Wedding in the Andes
Competitors will make a wedding design for a traditional Colombian wedding in the Andean region. The arrangement will be the central piece for the chapel. The arrangement should be representative of the region.
The arrangement will be made in a vase. All floral material must be placed in floral foam.
The arrangement must be at least 1,5 meters high. This height includes the dimensions of the vase. There is no high restriction. Color is free.
Considering that the Andean region comprises a very large territory and therefore has different cultures, produce different crafts, I want to show the Andean textile tradition with my arrangement, which is mainly reflected in two zones of the many areas that comprise the region Andean: the cundiboyasense and Huila. The first wanted to take the wool of white color with which the poncho is made as convenient for Colombians and the second take the twine, which is used by Huilense in woven items with motifs of indigenous origin that reflected in backpacks, individual and others.

Andean materials chosen, I wanted to expose a type curve structure of beauty, called by the English artist William Hogarth, in order to achieve curves contrasted the observer may fall within the proper motion of the topography of the mountain range Andes. Finally I wanted the colorful floral arrangement representing the green that dominates the mountain range to represent.
In conclusion the structure used, the colors of flowers and textile elements intended to reflect the settlement Andean culture not only in its traditional part but also the beauty and variety of vegetation in the Andean region.
As I mentioned previously used wool and sisal as textiles used in textile artisans produced in the Andean region. Regarding the plant material I used lots of green foliage like fern, flax, palm, eucalyptus and broom among others, to show the diversity of greens that has this region and white flowers that represent both the fog and snow that forms on the heights of the Andes.

The ideal couple for this type of arrangement must be proud of their culture Andean people and therefore are open to implement it as a decorative part of their marriage. Additionally should be simple people who understand that sobriety in the colors allows elegance in the set.
