Day 1 Copa América: "Wedding in the Andes" by Adiela Esparza Mejía

It was an exciting first day at the Copa América during the Proflora in Bogota.

Nine designers started the competition with a wedding assigment. "Wedding in the andes".

Day 1: First competition task: Wedding in the Andes

Competitors will make a wedding design for a traditional Colombian wedding in the Andean region. The arrangement will be the central piece for the chapel. The arrangement should be representative of the region.

The arrangement will be made in a vase. All floral material must be placed in floral foam.

The arrangement must be at least 1,5 meters high. This height includes the dimensions of the vase. There is no high restriction. Color is free.

Question 1: Explain what you did to make your wedding arrangement representative for the region?

The Andean region of Colombia is formed by three mountain ranges that cross the country from south to north through diversity of regions with different climates and cultures. Therefore when we talk about a traditional marriage Colombian Andean Region and is representative of the region, I was confused because there is nothing that is specific to the entire region, but there are marked differences in each of the Regions. I thought what could characterize the entire area is its mountainous Andean vegetation with humid climates that give us an abundant Flora Foliage as ferns, bromeliads, variety of orchids, vines, palms, among others. I decided to work with the Andean Zone located in the Central Cordillera where the Sabana de Bogotá is, choosing a design containing wooded materials contrasting with the delicacy of variety typical of the Region flowers and colorful analogue of yellow highlighting the elegance of the wedding in this part of the country.

Question 2: What materials and flowers did you use and why?

As explained above, I used materials from the forest and vines, palm leaves and variety of flowers such as Lilium, Anturium, establishing a contrast of textures that fit floral arrangement to the subject requested, while designing its structure and height that is elegant and suitable to have it in the church for a wedding.

Question 3: Describe the type of bride and groom who would fit perfectly your style of design. (Within the traditional style of an Andean wedding)
