Alpe d’Huez® - Could this be the white rose of the future?
The long term vision following the unveiling of Jan Spek’s gorgeous white rose Alpe d’Huez® is one whose nobleness cannot go unnoticed. We found this out recently after a chat with Erik Spek of JAN SPEK ROZEN on his prospects for the white rose variety.

Alpe d’huez was named after one of the toughest top climbs of the Tour de France. The "Dutch Mountain" as Erik and other racing enthusiasts fondly refer to the section following superb results clocked by Dutch riders at this stage. Similar to the white snow covering the vastness of this part of the alps, the rose Alpe d’Huez® boasts an attractive and clean shiny white.

Alpe d’Huez® is an almost pure white variety with a large bud and nicely shaped flower that boasts a unique symmetry. She is also a high producer with good stem-length. A few weeks back, the first bunches of the rose were introduced by Olij Holland and fetched some pretty decent prices. Although it is a bit too soon to compare Alpe d’Huez® to some of the better known whites such as Athena from Kordes and Avalanche from Dummen Orange, it is a matter of time then we will see how the variety holds its own among her peers.
“We hope that Alpe d’Huez® can offer some commendable competition, but this is a long process, time will tell, but the variety has all it takes,” said Erik Spek.

Alpe d’Huez® for Alpe d’HuZes Organization
Through their product, JAN SPEK ROZEN plans to later join hands with the Alpe d'HuZes foundation and lend a hand in raising funds for cancer research initiatives.
“Hopefully we can collaborate later with the Alpe d’HuZes organisation to help with raising money for the KWF,” says Erik.
Since its first edition in 2006, Alpe d’HuZes cycling event has raised more than 70 million Euros in the fight against effects of cancer. These monies are donated to the KWF or DCS (Dutch Cancer Society) which heads efforts geared towards combating cancer and improving the patients’ quality of life.
