‘Nature’s healing Light’ by Lucinda van der Ploeg at FleurAmour 2015
During Fleuramour 2015 in Alden Biesen the floral designer Lucinda van der Ploeg was asked to create a floral design work in the "Salon Belderbusch" of the castle of Alden Biesen.
Lucinda gladly accepted the challenge as she always has a story to tell and loves to do so with flowers.
Below you can read all about the results and the thoughts behind it.

I think the nature is healing for everyone. When you are stressed or when you don’t know what to do anymore or when you reached a point in your life, you don’t know what your goals in life are, your talents or what you can do to add something to your life and the world… I am sure, you will get your answers, you will meet your goal, when you go out in nature. Listen to the birds, the wind… Look at the sunbeams and shadows. Absorb all you see, smell, hear, taste and feel and you will get answers. The tunnel-shaped base, represents the walk true life towards your goal/ the light true nature. The outside base is solid, made out of sticks that represents all parts and processes in life, they all connect towards that goal, towards your heart, towards your light… The walking-through, beginning in the big opening, towards the end, where a opening is to come out, makes the visitor capable of experience the story. So again, I wanted to create an floral-experience.

Life is a party thanks to live without the material part, and to use things that are already there and are free. Celebrate life! So I didn’t had to incorporate with the theme, in basics it is already there..

The base is of wood that was thrown away, the first function was already developed. I re-used the wood to express a solid base, as life has to have… All processes have a solid base. To make a smooth color-pallete I used:

Alcea x Alcanthea (kwekerij Bouwmeester)
Rose ‘Copperfield’ and new to come (VIP-Roses)
Viburnum Snowball ( Rozenberg )
Iris germanica (kwekerij Bouwmeester)
Dahlia (G-Fresh)
Grasses (Kwekerij A. van Rijn)
Thalictrum delavayi (kwekerij Bouwmeester)
Kniphofia ‘Ice Queen’ (kwekerij Bouwmeester)
Craspedia ‘Drum Stick’ (G-Fresh)

Gladiolus Nanus (Kwekerij Hermans Noordwijkerhout)
Rudbeckia ‘Herbstsonne’ (kwekerij Bouwmeester)
Rudbeckia ‘Milk Shake’ (kwekerij Bouwmeester)
Typha (Nature)
Wood (Unigra Katwijk)
Floral foam (OASIS raquette 66cm.)
Step by Step creation of ‘Nature’s healing Light’
Can you tell us in steps how you project was created?:
The room has a very high ceiling. I wanted to use that height, but I wasn’t allowed to hang an object on the ceiling. No drilling or whatsoever. So building up from the floor was the only option. Obviously I wanted to work towards the light.
After calculating in my workshop a mathematic structure. To explain a little bit:
3 corners of 120˚
3 corners of 90˚
3 corners of 120˚ again in the top
3 loose sticks to connect in top
This both ways, so a circle comes out and can decrease while it is going towards a smaller point. Connecting every arch with crossed loose sticks. Covering the floor and paintings to protect for damaging. Setting up the structure with wood I found in a waste disposal tanker.
Connecting with an air-pressure stapler gun and a compressor. I got very nice help from 4 students from AOC Oost Almelo, they understood what I wanted to create and they helped to make it faster by handing the wood, holding the structure in the right place, so I could connect all. I couldn’t have done it without them! We were the 4-L & 1-D-team! (Lucinda Loes Lysanne Lotte & Daniek)…
After finishing the structure I connected the Oasis on the structure by using wood as a carrier board. Connecting with wood, staplers, tie-rips and Oasis-tape.
Than it was time to add gorgeous flowers. I knew how I wanted to highlighting the music rhythm as the wood kind of depicted. That is why I decided to put the Oasis in different heights.
Some Facts: 1350 sticks of wood, 6000 staples, 40 hours of building the structure, 1 air-power stapler gun, 1 day of flower arranging

The Final Results
As one year ago I wanted to enjoy the holism of passion for flowers again. Next to that I hope someone will like my work and will ask me to do a workshop and/of demo. Or teaching, lessons or whatsoever!
