Jewellery hidden inside Flower Consignment in 'tax evasion' ploy
A cargo freight company based at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is being investigated after cargo it cleared as flowers was intercepted at the airport with undeclared jewellery stashed in the consignment. Air Connection Ltd is now under scrutiny for being allegedly involved in a tax evasion syndicate through the export of undeclared goods.

The same firm involved with the consignment was ten years ago 2005 implicated in a scam involving goods containing stimulant drug Miraa (Khat) disguised as French beans. A similar case still involving Air Connection Ltd was unearthed a fortnight ago when cargo with undeclared bracelets was found hidden in flowers consignment.
On being contacted by a local newspaper, ‘The People Daily’, the company’s communications officer Margaret Murathi and a head of security only identified as Robert admitted seizure of the suspect cargo, but said it belonged to a “client abroad”.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has been profiled as a major regional transit point for drugs and ivory that exposes serious security lapses in the largest regional airport.
