The fourth edition of the Kenyan based flower exhibition IFTEX ended with good results for all participating companies. Although the number of international flower buyers in attendance were less than expected, the quality of visitors was high resulting in a good overall outcome, according to exhibitors. 223 exhibiting companies and 2,778 particpants attended the three day fair, that was held in the Oshwal Center in Westlands in Nairobi.
The quality as well as the number of varieties of displayed flowers was astonishing, bringing the trade fair again to a higher level. National and international visitors walked the show for 3 days in a row and filled the aisles daily from 10:00 am in the morning until closing time of the show at 18:00 hrs.
Even on the last day it was a full house until in the late afternoon. In short, IFTEX once more proved to be one of world’s leading flower trade shows.
The official opening of the IFTEX 4rd edition was overseen by Kenya's first lady Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta. She was honoured by a new pink rose being named after her: “Lady Margaret”, presented to her by Dutch Ambassador Joost Reintjes. Speaking during the event Kenya’s First Lady appreciated the role that the floriculture industry plays in Kenya’s economy and especially its contribution to women empowerment. She then presented trophies to the winners of the various categories of exhibitors who included small scale farmers and florists from Kenya.
Next year several celebrations and important events will coincide with the 5th edition of IFTEX.
Running concurrently with the 5th anniversary of IFTEX, will be the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Kenya Flower Council KFC as well as Union Fleurs general meeting slated to be held in the same week as IFTEX.
Floraholland Best Grower Award 2015
IFTEX guests were treated to a sumptuous evening cocktail at the official residence of the Dutch Ambassador to Kenya H.E Mr. Joost Reintjes (pictured above).
During the cocktail event, Sonjami Springfields located in Nakuru kenya was feted with the Best Grower Award 2015 by floraholland for introducing a good number of innovative varieties at the clocks in Alsmere.
The jury decision was informed by a combined factors... assortment, quality and availability. to receive the award was Inder Nain. The company is handled by Decofresh.
Flower Binding Contest by UFO Supplies
During the show, UFO supplies ran an exciting and interactive flower binding contest which had several representatives from different farms compete against each other on who would clock the fastest time using UFO's new and diverse Attalink Table Binder.
Participants were required to bind six bunches of flowers together and the time it took was registered "Top Gear" style. This allowed visitors to test the Attalink Table on user comfort, handiness and user-friendliness. Winners were awarded a price while the overall winner was presented with an Attalink Table
