Day 2: Second competition task: 100% hand-tied
The second task requires the creation of a revolutionary bouquet that is striking, unique, and never before seen in a time limitof 1 hour.
Bamboos grow straight. I split them thinly and re-formed them into inconceivably tortuous ones, which is the base of this work.
I used dahlias. In the language of flowers, dahlia signifies thankfulness. It’s my favorite flower.
I receive much benefit from lots of people even though I’ve never met them. I would like to give a message of thankfulness to all living beings and creatures.
Day 2: Third competition task: 100% organic
Task three relates to freedom by reduction. All of the contestants are required to avoid using any materials that are not recyclable. This is all about creating a 100% organic workpiece that is free of floral foam, wire, or metal.
I used bamboos, solid wood, 100% organic Nikawa glue, 100% natural persimmon juice as paint, linen strings, etc. I express mountains, rivers and valleys in the landscape of my home country and peace in the composition of flowers and 1,200 bamboo pieces.
The modern world is very convenient but on the other hand, I feel like organic items are getting fewer than before. Metallic screws are usually used in modern architecture, but in Japan of the past, they used to have an organic building technology without nails. This time, I adopted that technology. For this theme, I looked around historic buildings and nature landscapes and I’ve rediscovered the wisdom and technique of the ancient people in the past long before I was born.
