Fleurop - Interflora World Cup Berlin Day 2 Neil Whittaker
On the second day of Fleurop Interflora World Cup competition, the designers were asked to undertake two live task which they could prepare at home. First- a revolutionary bouquet 100% Hand-tied. The second assigment of the day was all about creating a 100% organic workpiece that is free of floral foam, wire, or metal.
It was another day with amazing floral design work.. Where the competitors fought to get a spot into the finals. Only ten would make it to the next day....
Flowerweb worked directly with the organisation to make sure we not only show you the end results but also a spep by step from start to finish. We interviewed the competitors to tell us the stories behind the creations and techniques used
Below you can see the works results from competitor from the UK Neil Whittaker.

Day 2: Second competition task: 100% hand-tied
The second task requires the creation of a revolutionary bouquet that is striking, unique, and never before seen in a time limitof 1 hour.
Displayed in its own unique stand, this hand-tied design should be lifted from its container by the handle at the top.
The hand-tied has been created within a square structure, which has been covered, in natural hessian. Contorted willow climbs through the design to create a three-dimensional feel.
This bouquet has been constructed to give the illusion of a naturalistic planted design and it is only when you look closely you realise that the hand-tied has been created inside and beneath the frame work.
Miniature Orchid plants, with their roots cascading down, have been added to the design, whilst Sempervivum and Air plants have been carefully pinned into the structure.

My Design has been created with with stunning , Alliums, Veronica, Clematis, Miniature Orchid Plants, Mulenbeckia, Sempervivum and Air plants

I would like to give my Bouquet to the President of the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society)
Card Message:
" Hope have a wonderful day and here is a little of the outside brought inside for you to enjoy."

Day 2: Third competition task: 100% organic
Task three relates to freedom by reduction. All of the contestants are required to avoid using any materials that are not recyclable. This is all about creating a 100% organic workpiece that is free of floral foam, wire, or metal.
100% Organic
Using three and half thousand hand-rolled pieces of paper, which have been sourced from a sustainable forest, creates my design. The structure is made from wood and held together with wooden dowels, which are then placed into the base of the design on a set of wooden rods. To ensure a water-source I have used natural biodegradable rubber tubing sealed with natural cork stoppers. The edges of the tubes have felt around to conceal them when placed into the rolled paper tubes. I have included natural dried twigs and fungus to give a naturalistic feel to the organic construction and my flower choice has been inspired by nature to give transparency and feel to the design.

The Challenge was trying to find 100% Organic products to create a free standing design without the use of metal, wire, glass plastic or foam . This design made me explore alternative solution’s to water sources and use natural products.
