Fleurop - Interflora World Cup Berlin - Day 1 Mehmet Yilmaz
It was an exiting first day of Fleurop Interflora World Cup competition. All competitors had to do two tasks. Starting of with a surprize item in the morning and in the afternoon the first task the competitors had prepared beforehand. Titled, ‘100% Personal’.
Flowerweb and it team was right there and worked with the organisation to make sure we not only show you the end results but also the story behind the creations and techniques used told by the competitors themselves.

100% Dianthus
introtext surprise Item
All contestants were given a surprise assignment which was called "100% Dianthus". They had 4 hours preperation time and 90 minutes time to actually finish the assigment with flowers.
The main ingredients of this assigment:
All competitors recieved the same metal construction.
The main focus in the overall design should be on Dianthus flowers.All competitors were free to use as many of the provided materials as they want.
I have no problems with this job. I like to work with natural materials. When you use a mono-flower in the work, the attention of the audience concentrate to the flowers and less to the constructure. And it is also some kind of freedom.
Day 1: First competition task: 100% personal
The first World Cup task is all about the personality of the finalists. Free of the compulsion to observe rules or conventions, the individual work pieces should reflect the different facets of their characters.
The Design is about roots ... my Roots , who carved my life like knife in a piece of wood. In all my thinking about myself , I never forget where I am coming from. The three Cultures of my Family and my Growing up in Germany are the reasons why I am what I am. The Roots are what you see when you look back .... They give a fundament and the energy to go ahead. That is why I show the roots so dominant. The roots of the Brazilian Bamboo are again expressing the same.
Thoughts and senses. To be so root oriented, I need it to survived in my search for my identity in life. I want to express confidence and still be modest, that is the rich heritage of my ancestors and the chances in this country, need to be lived every day. The flags of the 4 cultures should be reflected discreetly in the water, to heart nobodies soul, should submiss or glorify non of them
Welding of a Steel structure myself. Wrapping thousands of meters of wrapping wire around the base. Wiring the Bamboo roots on a Wire-grid. Placing the flowers in tubes. This techniques needed a strong foundation. The weight is very high. The Bamboo roots should be floral, organic as a contrast in telling the story about Roots.
Prep-time ca. 250 hours. Flowers :orchids, liliaceae, Araceae, color fresh :-)
A struggle for FREEDOM, wars are part of three countries of my heritage. To be on the run under pressure for a free life was part of my families existence since my first day.
