Fleurop - Interflora World Cup Berlin - Day 1 Martin Groen
It was an exiting first day of Fleurop Interflora World Cup competition. All competitors had to do two tasks. Starting of with a surprize item in the morning and in the afternoon the first task the competitors had prepared beforehand. Titled, ‘100% Personal’.
Flowerweb and it team was right there and worked with the organisation to make sure we not only show you the end results but also the story behind the creations and techniques used told by the competitors themselves.
Below you can see the results from competitor Martin Groen from The Netherlands
On our Fleurop - Interflora event page you can see the floral designs from the other competitors.

100% Dianthus
All contestants were given a surprise assignment which was called "100% Dianthus". They had 4 hours preperation time and 90 minutes time to actually finish the assigment with flowers.
The main ingredients of this assigment:
All competitors recieved the same metal construction.
All competitors were free to use as many of the provided materials as they want.
The main focus in the overall design should be on Dianthus flowers.
Freedom for me is in the combination, constructions and the balance of the flowers and materials, rather than the freedom to choose my own materials. So I didn't really mind the fact that the materials and such where determined my someone else.

Day 1: First competition task: 100% personal
The first World Cup task is all about the personality of the finalists. Free of the compulsion to observe rules or conventions, the individual work pieces should reflect the different facets of their characters.

100% personal, for me, is your DNA/brain. This determines who you are, so that is exactly what I’m going to depict. My crib stood in my parents’ bindery, so I basically ‘am’ flowers. I live, work, eat, travel and sleep, surrounding myself with flowers. That is why I chose to make a brainstem of flowers on a subsurface / construction of glass! Naturally, this is done in the Dutch colour orange. The flowers used are: ‘the little brain’; Celosia, with gloriosa, calla and vanda orchids. To symbolise the stimulus in the brain, I used cactuses. It is a lage objects with many small details. The general theme of my assignment is called: “100% personal freedom starts in your brain”

My technique basically was: pinch, wind, and on water tubes! Making the brain cost me about 150 hours.

Freedom starts with yourself and in your own thoughts. It means a great deal to me to be able to work with the most beautiful products in the world, every single day. That, and the emotions that come with it, is freedom to me.
