Fleurop - Interflora World Cup Berlin - Day 1 Neil Whittaker
It was an exiting first day of Fleurop Interflora World Cup competition. All competitors had to do two tasks. Starting of with a surprize item in the morning and in the afternoon the first task the competitors had prepared beforehand. Titled, ‘100% Personal’.
Flowerweb and it team was right there and worked with the organisation to make sure we not only show you the end results but also the story behind the creations and techniques used told by the competitors themselves.
Below you can see the results from competitor Neil Whittaker from United Kingdom
On our Fleurop - Interflora event page you can see the floral designs from the other competitors.

100% Dianthus
All contestants were given a surprise assignment which was called "100% Dianthus". They had 4 hours preperation time and 90 minutes time to actually finish the assigment with flowers.
The main ingredients of this assigment:
All competitors recieved the same metal construction.
All competitors were free to use as many of the provided materials as they want.
The main focus in the overall design should be on Dianthus flowers.
I actually enjoy to be given materials to use and to create something with. I quite enjoy that challenge because it requires me to think off my feet. The inspiration for this piece came from walking around Berlin seeing all the grafiti. That's what I wanted to convey.

Day 1: First competition task: 100% personal
The first World Cup task is all about the personality of the finalists. Free of the compulsion to observe rules or conventions, the individual work pieces should reflect the different facets of their characters.

I have always loved strong colours and structures and over the last 20 years they have become an integral trademark of my design work. The bold lines and multiple textures of this design symbolise my love of colour and structure. Using my favourite wools and felts I have built a transparent framework in which to entwine my favourite flowers in my most-loved colours. The contrast of strong straight lines blended with the soft curves of the flowers is accentuated with multiple textures. These layers represent the many facets of my personality, from my love of order and precision to my luminous, vibrant and carefree nature.

The strong line of 100 % Personel design is created with striking lines and bold colours. Using many textures of wools and felts, which are hand wrapped around the framework .Which has taken over 40 hours to prepare.

Freedom is the ability to create without boundaries and to allow your imagination to run wild.
