Floral shoulder piece by Timo Bolte

In this portrait of Swedish painter Alexander Roslin (1718-1793), the Baroness of Neubourg-Cromière wears a floral shoulderpiece, as was customary, on the left chest. Since 1770, these type of bouquets were getting bigger, because you added new flowers, their bright colors, should lift the complexion.

The second step consits of using a 1.0mm thin wire bent around the stem of the blossom, so that the two ends protrude at the bottom. Then the artificial wire is wrapped in tape and possibly in floral materials.

The wire stems are twisted on a central rib made of five 18 gauge stick wires using the overlapping technique, and they are then spread left and right.

Starting with some smaller flowers and becoming bigger and wider to the end.

It´s not only the colours and materials alone that suggests a modern country for this extravagant, flowing and decorative arrangement.
