Open Day Success at Interplant Roses East Africa, 22nd November 2013

Globally renowned rose breeder, Interplant Roses held a well-attended and successful Open Day at their Naivasha facility, located in the well-known flower business park in Naivasha, Kenya.
Mr. Robert Ilsink, Director Interplant Roses, Mr. Gavin Mouritzen GM Interplant Roses East Africa and staff present at Interplant Roses East Africa were excellent hosts and rose growers from far and wide attended the Open day.
In his welcoming address, Robert Ilsink thanked the visiting growers reiterating the company’s commitment to quality. This was the second Open Day at Interplant Roses East Africa.
The eager visitors then enjoyed the tours in the show green house to see and hear about Interplants new introductions as well as their classic rose varieties.
After refreshments and welcoming of guests the Interplant Open Day hosted two guest speakers:
Mr. Bas Ermerins of Roseportal with a presentation on 'Exploring and exploiting of the market in the Flower Business – how does IT Matter?' and Mr. Nicolas Pertusier of Agroway on 'Post Harvesting Commandments and Post Harvesting, a Marketing approach to export Roses' - both very interesting talks with clients having many questions answered afterwards.

Mr. Bas Ermerins, Relation Manager for Roseportal East Africa, gave an interesting set of comparisons between exploitation and exploration of IT in an organization explaining how these would work together to improve a grower’s performance.

MD at AGROWAY "Consulting & Engineering" Nicolas Pertusier who is a celebrated expert in his field gave important and in-depth insight on what he termed as ‘Post Harvesting Commandments’ which every grower should follow as a marketing approach to export roses.
His 'harvesting commandments' were based on cut stage, cut point, handling and speed to water and cooling, equipment hygiene and maintenance. While the 'grading commandments' touched on pre-cooling practices, sizing/grading/bunching and the final cold storage.

The eager visitors then enjoyed the tours in the show green house to see and hear about Interplants new introductions as well as their classic rose and spray rose varieties.
