BACK TO SCHOOL - ДЕНЬ ЗНАНИЙ

1st OF SEPTEMBER TRADITIONAL FLOWER DAY IN RUSSIA
For every kid in Russia, September 1st is the official first day of school. It is also one of the biggest traditional flower days in this country.
September 1st has an iconic cultural status in the Russian-speaking world and is immediately recognized there primarily in connection with beginning of the school year.

In towns and villages, well-dressed students arrive at school with a bunch of flowers. Dressed up, barely bigger than their backpacks, holding bouquets of flowers for their teachers, the first-graders are led to school by proud parents. But also the senior students can be spotted with flowers.
Day of Knowledge - День знаний
Children in Russia celebrate the first day of school since 1984. Officially, this 1st of September celebration is called the 'Day of Knowledge' (in Russian: День знаний).
The ceremony begins when all children stand in line and are welcomed by the director of the school by and the teachers. Senior students read poetry and perform songs and the 'First Bell' rings for the new comers. Older pupils hold the hands of younger ones and take them to class, nicely encouraging them to a good start of their education.
